Based on each chapter and the advice set forth in the book, the author seems to know what they are doing. They lay out clear advice on how to introduce your dogs to the idea of a baby, then ultimately how to introduce them when you bring the baby home.

The problem is that the case studies are written in a way that doesn't make the author sound very experienced as a trainer. The worst is a case study where the author details a situation where a dog is aggressive, he talks to the parents to learn about the dogs behavior, then recommends euthanizing the dog. I understand some situations are complicated, but no where in the case study does he mention trying to help train the dog. Wouldn't a dog trainer first try to help the dog change their behaviors before recommending death? I just lost all faith in the authors abilities as a trainer after reading that. If he said "we spent 2 weeks trying to teach the dog behaviors other than resource guarding, then we gave up.", I'd be a little more understanding.

Overall there are some good tips in the book and I feel like he could omit some of the case studies and convince us he's an expert, but currently the way it is written I am not convinced.

Useful ideas and tips!
Learned a lot for how to introduce my dog to our newborn , i recommend this to new parents with pups
Read this well before the arrival of our twins. I feel that there are some helpful tips that I will utilize for our two puppies to ensure a calm start to a lifelong relationship.
Many of the books and blogs I have read about preparing a dog for a new baby have been based on punishment,re-homing or isolating my dog from my new baby. This book though is a wonderful gem - it was recommended at my local vet - it clearly explains how to allow my Marley to still be apart of our expanding family while keeping everyone safe. It explains how to do it in a positive way to ensure that my new baby and dog will gorw up together and be best of friends. I really recommend this book to anybody who is pregnant and has a dog they want to keep as part of their family.
Really great book that helps you understand why your dog is behaving the way he is, and what you can do to help him adjust before the baby.
What a special book. Many often overlook how their furry friend will react to your new baby and how to properly plan / prepare / train for it. This book covers every aspect of it and provides techniques to prepare your pup for the new member of the family and how to work with him/her if they are at first resistant or change in behavior afterwards. This book comes from the heart and is very useful. Perfect for soon-to-be mothers and also new mothers alike. 5 stars!!
I unfortunately didnt know about this book until after I had brought my baby home, and faced a crisis in her anxious and aggressive response to the baby. Reading the book helped my understanding of why my dog would be reacting in such a way, and steps I could have taken prior to ease the transition for my dog (as well as better preparing myself for the situation - I was clearly too complacent!). Being a veterinarian myself, I will be reccomending the book to pregnant clients in the future, to have them prepared and well armed with solutions to assist their pooch to have an easy transition to the new family member.
